AI literacy
AI literacy is the ability to understand, evaluate, and use artificial intelligence responsibly in everyday life, work and learning. It helps people recognize the opportunities, limitations, and impacts of AI, so that technology serves humans and not the other way around.
An AI-literate user knows how to use AI appropriately, can assess the reliability of the information it produces, and takes ethical aspects into account, such as sustainability, data protection and copyright laws.
In adult education centres, AI literacy is strengthened as part of teaching so that learners gain the skills needed for safe AI application, and in ways that support their own learning.
AI in practice
In adult education centres, you can learn about AI not only in theory but also in practice. During Autumn 2026, as part of the project “Tekohälystä tekoälyyn työväenopistossa” (2025–2027) funded by the Finnish National Agency for Education, Espoo Adult Education Centre will implement pilot courses that utilize AI in small portions.
The courses do not venter around AI; instead, AI acts as a supportive tool alongside the course content. For example, in a physical exercise course AI can assist with writing a training diary, or during a crafts course help design new patterns. You can find pilot courses on ilmonet.fi using the keyword: tekoälyoppimisentukena.
